As part of your professional development in the area of Developmental Psychology we will be introducing you to the skills involved with researching the literature on a given topic and presenting a considered overview of your findings in an academic critical analysis. After selecting a topic from the list provided in this assessment guide, you will conduct a literature search to identify current research findings. You will then consolidate and present your findings in a 1500 word (+/- 10%) critical analysis. If your assessment exceeds 1650 words you will only be marked on the first 1650 words and anything beyond that point will not be read or contribute to your grade. The following steps apply: Step 1. Choose from the topics provided below. You must focus on one of the assignations below, otherwise a grade of zero will be awarded for this assessment. Step 2. Formulate a research question to focus on, including the research inclusions and exclusions for the literature review. Step 3. Evaluate the research articles and relate the findings to your topic. Step 4. Apply your findings to theoretical models of developmental psychology and synthesise your findings to provide a coherent discussion on the topic, rather than a summary of each paper. Step 5. Write up your critical analysis in the following format. a. Presentyour evidence-based critical analysis, critically evaluating the research as itapplies to your topic, your aim, and your research question; and providediscussion on how developmental theories apply. Depending on the topic andfocus, your critical evaluation might involve, for example, weighing up thebalance of the evidence in relation to what has been supported and notsupported, and then providing a clearly stated determination for the reader(recommended word limit: 900). c. Thefinal section of your submission will provide a succinct overview of yourfindings of the critical analysis, and its application to practice or futureresearch (recommended word limit: 300). Inother words, what does the literature say about empirically supported programsthat might bring about necessary change that could apply to your chosenpopulation? Can you identify any important gaps in this literature? You areexpected to integrate this story throughout the body of your analysis (section5b above).
