Essay question: (two questions choose 1 to write) you can choose 1-2 game to analysis
1.The smartphone is one of the most important gaming platforms in the history of digital games. Analyse a mobile game regarding how it leverages the locative, mobile or situated aspects of mobile play, and how these are linked to the game’s immersive or engaging experience. (e.g.y Pokemon go, Ingress game or other game )
What does locative/situated/mobile mean (question 1?)
locative/situated = games that depend on being in a certain place or moving in a certain way (ie. Pokemon Go requires you to walk to where Pokemon have appeared, Zombies Run keeps track of whether you’re running or not)
mobile = games that assume you are out and about while playing them and are designed around that assumption (ie. to hatch an egg in Pokemon Go requires walking a certain distance; this feature assumes you are walking around with your phone)
Does this mobile game need to be a location based mobile game? Or can any type of mobile game be analysed? (question 1?)
No, any type of mobile game is ok

Mobile game:
Three historical tropes od Urbanity
1. Flaneur
2. Derive
3. Parkour

2. Controversies about videogames, or within videogame culture, are commonplace. Select a controversy about games or from games culture and unpack what it tells us about videogame design, our values toward games, or the attitudes we have about games in society. (choose one to write). This could be a media panic around the inclusion of transgressive content in a game, arguments over rules in games or sports, or a high-school banning Fortnite.

question explain 2:
what the phrase mean ‘ unpack our values toward games, or the attitudes we have about games in society ?
This means we would like to see you analyse, critique and explore what society sees as valuable in games, or what society thinks about certain ideas in games – such as violence, death, sex)

What do you mean by “the way we value things in games”? Can you further elaborate it for me please? My understanding is instead of defending the opinion of one side, we should discuss how video games are perceived by the people from both sides of the controversy.

.Yes – we arent looking for you to defend or argue against the controversy. We need you to explore what it means in society for game content – like what is or isn’t acceptable, what we consider important

What do you mean a controversy about games or from games culture and unpack what it tells us about videogame design?

Yeah, so that’s an example of how game design, impacts how we think about an issue. So I think this class was the one where we talked about slave Tetris, briefly, so like slave Tetris was controversial, because it was up King the issue of slavery, the game design was making light of slavery and it was seem to sort of be making slavery into what not a serious issue. So that was a problem with a game design, made it seem like a serious issue wasn’t serious. And so it became controversial. So you’re looking for situations like that where the game design sort of contributed to people having problems.

Also ,can write about violence in games, Call of Duty, over the years, lots of people have had issues with the Call of Duty games.
