Group Observation Evaluations (20 pgs)
The following 4 videos are lengthy recordings of different groups (task, interactive therapeutic, anger management). The main objective for this assignment is to observe the group dynamics that develop in each group work. Please do not write about the topic of their discussion. You only need to focus your writing on observations that describe the group dynamics. Each group evaluation must be 5 pgs long. The evaluation of each group consists of answering 10 questions that are the same for each video.
1. Describe the focus/goals and/or mission of the group. (There may be an overall mission and a specific session goal. Please describe both.)
2. Describe what was productive/effective things you observed related to facilitating a successful group. (Be specific and identify where this occurs.)
3. Describe what you would change/add/ do differently to make this a better group. Be specific and identify where this occurs.
4. As you do more observations of this group describe your feelings/thoughts/behaviors as an observer during the meeting. What did you gain from observing the group? (This should be different from your feelings/thoughts/ behaviors you had while watching the group work)
5. What interactions between group members did you notice, either verbal or non-verbal? What messages did they send? (Be specific and identify where this occurs.)
6. Did you notice any instances when one member became quiet? Or might have felt slighted? Did the members participate equally?
7. What did you think about the make-up of the members in terms of gender? What did you think of the way they were seated? Did the seating arrangement have any impact on what happened? If the meeting was online, what are some aspects you observed in terms of arrangements, allotted time to speak, tone, and mood of the conversation,
8. Was the facilitator of the group effective? (Be specific and identify where this occurs.)
9. What did you notice about the interaction between the facilitator and the participants? (Be specific and identify where this occurs.)
10. Were there any non-verbal messages from the facilitator/leader?
